Severe Weather Conditions Create Emergency Situation on Republic's Roads

Dear citizens, due to the heavy snowfall, severe snowstorms, and low visibility experienced in recent days, an emergency situation has been created on a number of roads across the republic.

As of December 25 at 13:30, due to severe snowstorms and poor visibility, the Meghri and Spitak mountain passes are closed to vehicles with trailers. The section known as 'Zanger' in Sisian is closed to all types of vehicles. The Vardenyats mountain pass is closed to vehicles with trailers, while other types of vehicles face limited access. Blizzards are present on the roads in the Goris region.

In light of the current situation, we urge people to avoid travel in the aforementioned directions,” the statement said.

It was noted that there is black ice in places on the roads of Talin, Ani, Akhuryan, Ashotik, Aragats, Spitak, Tashir, Vanadzor, Abovyan, Sevan, Jambarak, Martuni, Vayk, and Sisian.

“The other interstate and national roads are open. Road workers are currently conducting snow clearing and treatment with salt-sand on the roads,” the statement added.
