The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, Army General Valery Gerasimov, has stated that Moscow continues to work towards resolving the heightened tensions between Yerevan and Baku and achieving a peace treaty.

Speaking at a meeting with foreign military attaches, the general noted that the Russian Federation is also actively working on unblocking transport communications in the South Caucasus.

“The situation in the South Caucasus is still tense, but there is a trend toward stabilization,” Gerasimov said.

He also addressed the operations of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh, mentioning that during military operations, peacekeepers facilitated the evacuation of more than 10,000 civilians to the locations where the contingent is stationed, and subsequently ensured the safe departure of almost the entire population of the region to the territory of Armenia.

Additionally, nearly 300 wounded individuals have been transported to hospitals via peacekeeping aviation. At the same time, the Russian contingent continues to carry out its tasks as a guarantee of building a peaceful life and enabling residents to return to the region.
