Noratus Residents Have Started Removing Their Nets Today, According to Community Leader
In the Noratus community of Gegharkunik Province, residents protesting against the fishing ban have come to terms with the government's decision that fishing is currently not permitted. This was stated to Aravot.am by the community leader, Andranik Grigoryan.
“Today, the residents of Noratus are already removing their nets; they have accepted the fishing ban and have collectively gone out to take down their nets,” reported the mayor.
According to Grigoryan, the incident that occurred between the rangers and the residents the day before was a result of a misunderstanding. “They are all understanding people; it was just that in the morning they had arranged with the Prime Minister or the Regional Governor that the nets should be collected, and the next day they went out and saw the National Park rangers had already collected the nets, and that’s when everything escalated. The residents are all adequate people. The fishing ban has existed since the Communist era until today; neither Pashinyan nor anyone else is to blame. The people have always accepted it; it’s a natural process,” he stated.
The mayor also mentioned that, according to his information, the 26 residents of Noratus who were arrested the day before have been charged but will not be detained and will be released today.
