Turkey Seeks Fairer Approach from EU on European Integration, Says Hakan Fidan

Turkey expects a more sensible and fair approach from the European Union regarding its membership, as well as swift actions towards updating relations within the customs union and simplifying the visa regime. This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a phone call with EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi.

Fidan also mentioned that it is incorrect to postpone discussions on a joint statement regarding Turkey-EU relations, which has been prepared by the European Commission and the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, to the next summit.

Turkey has officially aimed to become a full member of the EU since 2005. The main obstacle to negotiations is the Cyprus issue.
