North Korea has launched an unidentified ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan, according to Yonhap, citing the South Korean Ministry of Defense. "North Korea has fired an unidentified ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan," the report states.

The Japan Coast Guard has speculated that the missile has already landed outside the country’s exclusive economic zone. The flight altitude exceeded six thousand kilometers. Authorities in Seoul have determined that the missile was launched at a vertical angle, and its range was one thousand kilometers.

Tokyo has convened a national security council in response to the launch.
