Rosatom May Start Re-cultivation of Former Nairit Chemical Plant in Yerevan
Rosatom may begin re-cultivation works at the site of the former Nairit chemical plant in Yerevan as soon as the Armenian side expresses the corresponding desire. Preliminary consultations have already been conveyed to the Armenian authorities, reported Andrey Lebedev, Director of State and Sectoral Program Implementation in Environmental Protection at Rosatom.
“At the request of the Armenian side, we began to develop this issue last year. During his visit to Yerevan, the General Director of the Rosatom State Corporation, Alexey Likhachev, presented a report to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the results of the extensive work carried out in a short period. And we, depending on the appropriate instructions from our government, will certainly address this issue if there is further interest and inquiry from the Armenian side,” said Lebedev.
At the same time, he emphasized that Russian specialists have cataloged the waste accumulated in the area of the former chemical plant.
