Russia and Armenia Interested in Developing New Transportation Routes: Ovechuk

Russia, as well as Armenia, is interested in diversifying transportation routes and developing new pathways for cargo transportation between the countries. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Ovechuk during a meeting of the intergovernmental commission held in Yerevan.

Declaring the dynamic development of trade-economic cooperation, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian government also noted that the "Upper Lars" checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border cannot ensure year-round transportation communication due to climatic reasons. This circumstance seriously hinders the development of relations between the two countries.

It is worth noting that from January to October 2023, the trade turnover between the countries amounted to $5.4 billion, which is an increase of more than 40 percent compared to the same period last year.
