Amnesty Applied to Vladimir Gasparyan's Daughter
The public criminal prosecution against Yuliya Gasparyan, daughter of former Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan, has been halted, not on the grounds of acquittal but through an amnesty. This has been reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia.
During the judicial phase of the case, specifically at the preliminary hearings on October 12, 2023, Yuliya Gasparyan’s lawyer submitted a motion for expediting the proceedings. Yuliya Gasparyan, alongside her lawyer's request, declared her agreement with the charges brought against her.
During the expedited proceedings, the lawyer presented a motion to the court to discontinue the public criminal prosecution against her based on the law declaring amnesty in connection with the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan and the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the First Republic of Armenia.
It was noted that the court granted the presented motion on October 12, and the public criminal prosecution against her was terminated not on grounds of acquittal but through amnesty. Earlier in the preliminary investigation, Yuliya Gasparyan had compensated the damages caused to the state.
To remind, criminal prosecution against the former police chief's daughter was initiated in November 2022 on charges of embezzlement and misappropriation. The criminal proceedings investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee had revealed that she was appointed as a senior officer in the operational department of the police forces headquarters but had failed to report for duty for years. During that time, she was actually paid 8,838,000 AMD (as salary, bonuses, and vacation pay), which Yuliya Gasparyan received and cashed.
