How Many People Have Died from Traffic Accidents in the Capital Over the Past Year
According to official statistics provided to MediaHub by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 54 citizens have died in traffic accidents in the capital during the first 11 months of 2023 (a pregnant woman counts as one person, editorial note).
The police report that they conduct daily awareness-raising activities in the capital, urging pedestrians to cross the road at designated areas. Those who violate this rule for the second time are fined up to five times the minimum wage, amounting to 5,000 drams.
“In the first 11 months of this year, 13,830 citizens have been fined for crossing the road in non-designated areas,” said Arman Sayadyan, head of the Monitoring and Analysis Department of the Patrol Service, in an interview with the media.
The media also points out that citizens have their justifications; sometimes they must walk half a kilometer to reach the crossing, which is inconvenient, and at other times, they are simply in a hurry.
It is noted that in the past ten days, two deaths have been recorded in the capital due to traffic accidents. In one incident, the victim was a pregnant woman who was hit near the underground crossing in front of Malibu Park, while in the other case, a 49-year-old man was struck on Charents Street near the above-ground crossing.
