50 Convicts Request the Right to Education, Government Allocates 28 Million AMD
The government decided in its meeting today, December 14, to allocate 28 million AMD to enable convicts in correctional facilities to exercise their right to basic education.
The justification for the decision states: “Any convict who has more than a year left until the expiration of their sentence can exercise their right to education (obtaining basic education) at the expense of the State Budget of the Republic of Armenia, regardless of age, by submitting a written request.”
The State Non-Commercial Organization of the Ministry of Justice, “Legal Education and Implementation Center for Rehabilitation Programs,” has received requests from 50 convicts serving sentences in correctional facilities who express their desire to exercise their right to education.
This decision proposes to provide additional funding to the organization to ensure the exercise of education rights for the aforementioned convicts.
