What the EU Promised to Georgia

Georgia has received historic recommendations from the European Commission regarding its candidate status for EU membership, said EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Gerchinsky in Tbilisi. According to him, Brussels will stand by Georgians in matters of human rights protection.

“The protection of human rights is the foundation of the European Union. The vision of reality is part of the EU's enlargement process, and it is one of the nine steps that Georgia must take towards EU membership. The proposal to grant candidate status to Georgia is historic. It comes with the responsibility of improving human rights protection. You can count on the EU,” Gerchinsky stated.

He added that Georgia must work on human rights protection, noting that the EU promises support and protection to Georgia.
