VIDEO: Hundreds of Thousands of Fish Wash Ashore in Japan

Hundreds of thousands of fish have washed ashore in the city of Hakodate, Japan. The reasons for this phenomenon remain unclear. Local residents attribute the cause to the recent water discharge from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, while scientists suggest natural processes, changes in temperature, and migration as possible explanations.

The 1.5-kilometer stretch of beach is now covered with several tons of sardines and mackerels. Locally, some Japanese have managed to replenish their supplies with still-living fish, but it remains uncertain what to do with the rest.
