Armenia to Utilize Iranian Ports
Armenia and Iran have agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on sectoral cooperation that will allow the Armenian side to use Iranian ports. This was reported by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia.
Issues regarding the implementation of cargo transportation between the two countries were discussed in Tehran by the Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia, Narek Teryan, and the Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Ali Akbar Safaei, who is also the executive director of the Ports and Maritime Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“The Iranian side has expressed its readiness to provide favorable conditions for Armenian companies to utilize Iranian ports,” the statement noted.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed Armenian-Iranian relations and questions related to the implementation of cargo transportation. They emphasized that Armenia could become a transit country for the Islamic Republic of Iran to the EAEU and European countries, while the Islamic Republic of Iran could serve as a gateway for Armenia to the Persian Gulf, Central Asian countries, and India.
