South Korea Imposes Sanctions on North Korea Over Reconnaissance Satellite Launch

The Republic of Korea has imposed sanctions on 11 individuals associated with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) for their involvement in the development of reconnaissance satellites and ballistic missiles. This information was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The ministry clarified that the restrictions are being implemented in response to the "so-called launch of a reconnaissance satellite, which threatens peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and in the international community." Sanctions have been applied to 11 citizens of the DPRK in connection with satellite development and the procurement of necessary materials. The restrictions also apply to individuals involved in the development of ballistic missiles.

On December 1st, sanctions were imposed on four employees of the DPRK's State Administration for Aerospace Development and a representative of the Ryongsong Machine Complex related to satellite development. Additionally, sanctions were announced against six more individuals involved in research in the ballistic missile sector, including an employee of the embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Russia and a lieutenant general of the Korean People's Army.

This marks the 13th package of sanctions under President Yoon Suk-yeol's administration. Since October 2022, a total of 75 individuals and 53 entities have been added to the sanctions lists.
