Israeli Intelligence Services Were Aware of Hamas Plans More Than a Year Before the Attack: Details
Israeli intelligence services had acquired information about the Palestinian radical group Hamas's attack plan more than a year before the assault. This was reported by The New York Times (NYT), citing the relevant documents.
According to the publication, the document, codenamed 'The Jericho Wall,' contains approximately 40 pages. It clearly outlines the incursion carried out by Hamas on October 7, detailing it point by point.
“Israeli officials called it ambitious and ignored specific warnings,” the article states.
Officials admitted that had they taken the received intelligence operationally and seriously, they would have better prepared for the armed conflict or possibly avoided the attack altogether.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on October 7, following the infiltration of thousands of Hamas militants from Gaza into Israel, when Hamas announced the launch of the 'Al-Aqsa Flood' operation. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was in a state of war.
The goal of Israel's 'Iron Swords' operation was to repel the attack, free more than 200 hostages, including foreigners, and eliminate Hamas.
