Serious Issue Arising: Keiyan on Parking Changes
This decision is thoughtless, as it does not take into account the rights of residents living in those areas.
Tigran Keiyan, the president of the Driver's Union NGO, expressed this opinion in an interview with Auroranews, commenting on the issue that parking fees will be established based on zoning principles.
According to him, this change will create significant problems for the residents of those zones:
“The Yerevan Municipality should also take into account the rights of citizens living in that area when applying any such restrictions, and those rights should not be violated. This infringes on them even more, but these people live there and should not have their parking opportunities in their neighborhoods limited. Therefore, such an approach towards them is not correct,” he said.
In Keiyan's opinion, the municipality has made yet another hasty decision, and “the only goal here is to collect more money, not to solve any problems.”
It is worth noting that the Yerevan Municipality announced today that due to proposed changes in local tax rates for 2024, parking fees in the Yerevan community will be established based on zoning principles. Zones A and B are proposed to be defined in the city of Yerevan. It is indicated that the basis of the initiative is primarily to significantly relieve the small center of the capital, rather than to increase communal budget revenues in this manner.
