We Are Ready to Return the Enclaves: Alen Simonian
During a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly, the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, stated that during the USSR era, it was thought that the USSR would last forever and that now it is very difficult to find the dividing documents.
“There is the specific case of Artsvashen, the belonging of which to Armenia is not negotiable by either side, but I am confident that we will find a solution to this issue,” he said, referring to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that there are no legal grounds or documents regarding the enclaves.
In response to the question of whether there is a legal basis concerning the enclaves, Simonian replied, “If there is, we are ready to return their enclaves, and they must return our Artsvashen. I do not rule out that we will find some solution, for example, what is on this side of the border will remain here, and what is on the other side of the border will stay there. For instance, Artsvashen has a much larger area than the 2-3 enclaves that Azerbaijan may talk about.”
“If there is peace, Armenia is capable of controlling those few small areas that have the possibility of becoming exclaves from Armenia, and providing for them. The same must be done by Azerbaijan. We are doing everything within the framework of equality logic,” the President of the National Assembly added.
