24 People Killed by Lightning Strikes in India
In the western Indian state of Gujarat, 24 people have died due to lightning strikes over the past two days, with an additional 23 individuals injured due to heavy rains, reports Reuters.
According to state government data, there have been heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and hail on Sunday and Monday, with some areas receiving up to 144 mm of rain within a 24-hour period. “We will soon start assessing the damage incurred,” said Gujarat’s Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel, adding that compensation will be provided to those affected.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that rain will continue in certain parts of the state on Monday.
