It is known how long the catching of fish in Lake Sevan will be prohibited

The catching of fish in Lake Sevan is prohibited until January 20, 2024, inclusive. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Environment.

In connection with the spawning period of the fish, enhanced control measures will be implemented in Lake Sevan and throughout Armenia. All swimming tools, fishing equipment, and temporary shelters for fishermen will be removed from the territory of the 'Sevan' National Park, and the entry of all types of fishing gear and swimming tools into Lake Sevan will be prohibited.

Strict control will be established on all forest roads surrounding Lake Sevan, and check points will be located near the exits of main roads leading out of the region,” the statement said.

Around-the-clock duty will also be established in the territory of the 'Sevan' National Park. Inspections will be organized to exclude the sale of fish roe and fish in the markets of Yerevan and the provinces of Armenia.

Representatives of responsible agencies will also hold meetings with the leaders of communities adjacent to Lake Sevan, fishermen, and citizens.

The authorities emphasize that our compatriots engaged in fishing should understand that such measures aim to restore the ecosystem of Lake Sevan through the recovery of fish stocks, which benefits every citizen of the Republic of Armenia. They urge the citizens of the Republic of Armenia to approach this issue of national importance with care and to support the implementation of fishing ban measures.
