Ani Khachatryan Details Incident: "Sona Aghekian Splashed Water on Me, I Pulled Her Hair"
I was merely giving a speech when various comments started coming from the audience, all the way to references to Vazgen Sargsyan and unnecessary words. This was stated by Ani Khachatryan, the leader of the "Republic" faction in the Yerevan City Council, during a conversation with reporters regarding the incident involving her and Sona Aghekian during a council meeting.
“I felt that my speech wasn’t going well, so I stepped down to finish. At that moment, the ‘queen of sewage’ decided that she should splash water on me. Then chaos ensued, as you have seen,” she said.
In response to the comment that the atmosphere had been tense since the morning, Khachatryan remarked, “They came here with that purpose, it was clear that this was the reason for their arrival. We tried to restrain things as much as possible, to keep the speeches political, from the podium and not from the audience, but we saw what we saw.”
As for the altercation, the council member stated, “I did not hit anyone. At the moment when water was splashed on me, I pulled her hair in self-defense to take the glass from her. That was all that happened. After that, it was chaos, I can't say what happened next.”
It is noteworthy that the situation had escalated during Ani Khachatryan's speech at the Yerevan City Council meeting. After Khachatryan stepped down from the podium, Sona Aghekian, a member of the “Mother Armenia” faction, splashed water on her, to which Khachatryan responded in kind. Following this, a scuffle broke out, prompting Mayor Tigran Avinyan to order the live broadcast to be turned off.
