Nearly 3000 Trucks Stranded Near Polish-Ukrainian Border

As of Sunday morning, around 3000 trucks, predominantly Ukrainian, are blocked on the Polish side of the border due to a blockade by Polish truck drivers that has lasted more than 10 days, Ukrainian authorities reported.

Earlier this month, Polish drivers blocked three border crossings with Ukraine to protest their government's inaction. Ukrainian officials stated that Kyiv and Warsaw failed to reach an agreement again last week to end the protest actions.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure, prior to the blockade, an average of 40,000 to 50,000 trucks passed through the existing eight border crossings per month, which is double the pre-war figures. Most of the cargo is transported via the Ukrainian transport fleet.

According to Ukrainian border guards, currently only a few vehicles cross into Poland through the blocked crossings each hour. Last week, Ukrainian grain brokers reported that food truck deliveries to Ukraine decreased by 2.7% during the first 13 days of November due to difficulties arising from the drivers' strike at the Polish border.

Spike Brokers, which regularly monitors export statistics, indicated that the passage of vehicles through customs points with Poland has decreased to 4000 tons of cargo per day, compared to a peak of 7500 tons per day a month ago.
