Surik Khachatryan's Son Arrested, Charges Modified
The son of former Syunik region governor Surik Khachatryan, T. Khachatryan, has been arrested, and his charges have been modified. This information comes from the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
“Specifically, after being found in Yerevan and presented to the prosecuting body, a new charge has been brought against T. Khachatryan within the framework of a criminal case under investigation by the Syunik regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, considering the conclusions of the forensic medical examination. He has been charged under Article 335, Part 1; Article 297, Part 3; and Article 167, Part 2, Points 6, 8, and 12 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
According to procedural rules, the investigator conducting the case has submitted a motion to the court to reconsider the measure of restraint applied to T. Khachatryan, which has been granted by the court, leading to his arrest.
T. Khachatryan is accused of having, on June 19, 2023, around 8:30 PM, driven his Mercedes-Benz with two close friends to an auto service station in Goris to clarify issues that arose during a phone conversation regarding the purchase of tires for the vehicle. During this meeting with a 46-year-old individual engaged in tire sales, he incited a brawl with the staff of the auto service point using a trivial pretext, emphasized his own advantages, and exhibited reckless behavior, insulting them with sexual slurs. Subsequently, disregarding public order, he fired shots with an illegally possessed firearm at the 46-year-old man, causing him moderate bodily harm, and then left the scene, abandoning the Goris area and evading investigation,” the Investigative Committee's statement reads.
It is noteworthy that he was found on November 8, 2023, in Yerevan. Footage has also been released showing the arrest of Surik Khachatryan's son from a hiding place in the yard of their house.
