PHOTOS: San Francisco Streets Cleared of Homeless and Drug Addicts Ahead of Xi Jinping's Visit
San Francisco's streets have been cleared of homeless individuals and drug addicts ahead of Chinese leader Xi Jinping's visit, reports The New York Post.
They have been forcibly relocated to distant areas of the city, while tent encampments have been dismantled.
It is noted that Xi Jinping's visit to the U.S. is related to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Security measures for his visit include barricading roads with iron poles and an increased police presence in the city.
Authorities have also installed new flower beds on the streets, removed trash, started catching stray dogs, and overall, have begun to actively improve the city's appearance.
Local residents are complaining that these are only temporary measures. On regular days, the publication reports, one can see numerous homeless individuals in the city center, as well as people lying on the sidewalks who are unconscious from drug use.
