Finland Becomes First Foreign Buyer of Israeli Ballistic Missile Defense System

Israel has signed a contract worth approximately €317 million to supply Finland with the "David's Sling" long-range air defense systems. The delivery is expected to take place by 2030. Finland has become the first foreign country to purchase this complex.

The announcement regarding the acquisition of the "David's Sling" was made by Finland immediately after submitting its application for NATO membership in the spring of 2023. These systems, which will be installed in the country, are being adapted to integrate with the overall national command and control system.

The complex is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, as well as aircraft and drones at ranges of up to 300 kilometers. It is developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in collaboration with Israel's Ministry of Defense and the American defense contractor Raytheon.

Finland has stated that it will enhance its armed forces in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The country currently possesses the Norwegian "NASAMS 2" systems and has also operated "Buk-M1" complexes, which were supplied by Russia in exchange for debt repayment.
