At the Makhachkala airport, protesters attempted to turn over a police car. According to reports from Russian media, the officer tried to disperse the crowd by firing shots into the air, but the demonstrators surrounded him and forced him to apologize for drawing his service weapon.

Previously, Rosaviatsiya announced the closure of Makhachkala airport.

"Due to the entry of unknown individuals onto the runway of Makhachkala airport, it has been decided to temporarily close the airport for the servicing of arriving and departing flights. The measures will remain in effect until the situation normalizes. Law enforcement agencies are on-site. Flights scheduled to land in Makhachkala have been redirected to alternative airports," the statement said.
