Japanese Fishermen Suffer from Sanctions Against Russia
Julya
Japanese fishermen have lost access to the Kuril Islands due to sanctions imposed against Russia. This has been reported by the Japanese publication Hokkaido Shimbun (HS). The restrictions stemming from the sanctions against Russia have disrupted Japanese fishing activities.
According to the fishermen, as long as Moscow and Tokyo maintain tense relations, it is impossible to engage in fishing. One fisherman shared with reporters, “We would like to go fishing in the waters of the Southern Kurils again this year, but this is regulated by the annual negotiations between the two countries, which did not take place in 2023.”
