40-Year-Old Resident of Yerevan Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder Near Court
The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an investigation in the Yerevan city investigative department's Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts to clarify all the circumstances surrounding the attempted murder of a 54-year-old man near the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction located at Ajapnyak 1. The Investigative Committee has released this information.
On October 18, 2023, a report was received from the Yerevan police department regarding a "gunshot wound to the right chest" diagnosis for the aforementioned man, who was transferred to the 'Armenia' Medical Center at 15:40. Criminal proceedings have been initiated based on the first part of Article 44-155 and the first part of Article 335 of the RA Criminal Code.
During the preliminary investigation, blood-like traces, fired cartridges, and one bullet were discovered and seized from the crime scene. It was also found that the shots damaged a Mercedes Benz vehicle parked in the court’s parking lot. Clothes worn by the victim at the time of the incident, as well as the bullet extracted from his right elbow joint during surgery, were seized.
Forensic medical, forensic genetic, forensic ballistic, forensic trace examination, and forensic evidence analysis have been ordered, and the police have been instructed to undertake operational-search measures. Due to the victim's health condition, necessary investigative actions have not yet been carried out.
On October 19, 2023, at 01:30, a 40-year-old resident of Yerevan presented himself to the Shengavit police station, simultaneously providing the 'Makarov' type handgun used in the crime along with ammunition. He was presented to the investigative department. According to preliminary data, still subject to verification, interpersonal conflicts are believed to be the motive for the crime.
Based on the clearly arisen reasonable suspicion of committing a crime, he has been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
