Water Shortage in Gaza Has Become a Matter of Life and Death, Says UN

The water shortage in Gaza has become a matter of life and death for over 2 million residents, and urgent fuel delivery to the area is necessary. This was stated in a statement by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Previously, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, calling the opponents "animals."

“Due to the water shortage, more than 2 million people across Gaza are at risk. This has become a matter of life and death. Urgent fuel must be delivered to Gaza to ensure water supply for 2 million people,” the document cites statements from UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.

The organization notes that clean water is running out in the Gaza Strip, with the pumping stations and public water supply networks having ceased operations. People are forced to use dirty well water, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.

“We urgently need to supply fuel to Gaza. Fuel is the only option to ensure safe drinking water for people. If we do not do this, people, including young children, the elderly, and women, will begin to die of dehydration. Water is now the last lifeline. I call for an immediate lifting of the blockade on humanitarian aid,” Lazzarini added.
