Turkey Must Choose: To Align with the EU and NATO or with Russia, Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah, Says European Commission
Turkey must make a choice: to align itself with the values of the European Union, NATO, and their member countries, or to side with Russia, Iran, the Palestinian Hamas movement, and the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah. This opinion was expressed by Margaritis Schinas, Vice President of the European Commission, during the second conference on the Eastern Mediterranean and Southeastern Europe held in Brussels.
“Since the very beginning of the terrorist attacks launched by Hamas against Israel... all 27 EU member states unanimously recognized Israel’s right to self-defense, condemned the terrorist attack, and declared to everyone that terrorism is unjustifiable. Turkey must choose which side of history it wishes to be on: with us—the EU, NATO, our values, and the virtues of the West—or with Moscow, Tehran, Hamas, and Hezbollah,” Schinas stated, adding that “the answer should be quite clear.” These words were reported by the Naftemporiki newspaper.
At the same time, the European Commission Vice President noted that Turkey is a key partner in Europe and in the Eastern Mediterranean region for stability in areas such as immigration and trade. Schinas also criticized Ankara for not participating in sanctions against Russia.
