"There is only one place for Germany - next to Israel" - Scholz
Germany, bearing historical responsibility for Israel's security, is offering military assistance to the country and promises to suppress support for the Palestinian Hamas organization in Germany. This was stated by Chancellor Olaf Scholz in response to Hamas's attack on Israel, as reported by The Times of Israel.
Scholz noted in the German Parliament that he has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to inform Germany of any needs, "such as for treating the wounded." He stated, "At this moment, there is only one place for Germany - next to Israel," addressing the lawmakers.
"Our own history, derived from the Holocaust, makes it a permanent obligation for us to defend the security of the state of Israel," Scholz emphasized.
He also elaborated that Germany will officially impose a ban on activities supporting Hamas and that "there will be zero tolerance for antisemitism." He mentioned that Germany has halted aid directed toward the development of the Palestinian territories, although it continues to provide humanitarian assistance.
The German Ministry of Defense announced that it has agreed to Israel's request to supply two Heron TP 5 combat drones. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated in Brussels that Israel has requested ammunition, and that request will be discussed.
