On the morning of October 7, Hamas militants launched an assault on Israel. The following morning, the Lebanese group Hezbollah attacked Israeli military positions in solidarity with Hamas.

In retaliation, the Israeli Defense Forces targeted group positions in Lebanon with artillery strikes.
