Another 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan, Rated as 'Destructive'
A 6.4 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in northwestern Afghanistan, as reported by the Altai-Sayan branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Unified Geophysical Service.
According to the branch's operational processing data, the earthquake occurred at 03:42 Moscow time (04:42 Yerevan time) on Wednesday, with its epicenter located 37 kilometers north of the city of Herat, where several powerful earthquakes had earlier been recorded.
Based on the intensity of the tremors at the epicenter, the earthquake is rated as 'destructive'. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates the earthquake's magnitude at 6.3, with the epicenter situated 28 kilometers northwest of Herat.
