Party Representatives on Avinyan’s Election as Mayor: "Hraparak"
Nana Sargsyan, representing the "Public Voice" party, stated in an interview with "Hraparak" that members of their party voted against Tigran Avinyan but attended the council meeting because they oppose the new elections for the mayor of Yerevan. Despite claims from the team of Mayor Marutyan that Avinyan is more preferable for Vardan Gukasyan’s "Dogi" than Marutyan, Sargsyan believes there is no difference between Tigran Avinyan and Hayk Marutyan, asserting that there are no former members of the ruling Civil Contract Party.
“We voted against everyone, we also opposed going to the second elections, especially given that the country is in a very critical state, with serious problems facing the citizens of Artsakh. There was no point in wasting the budget, especially when there is no difference between Avinyan being the mayor or Marutyan. Regardless, we will work as the opposition, and you will witness our work in the future,” she stated.
Isabella Abgaryan, from the "National Progress" party, also commented on the inaugural session of the Yerevan City Council in her conversation with "Hraparak". She noted, “Forces came together that could not gather enough votes separately. This was a tremendous blow for Yerevan. Vardan Gukasyan had declared that Avinyan is more preferable for him than Marutyan, so there was nothing new in this regard; we are not surprised that the ruling party elected a mayor at the expense of its Prime Minister being insulted. There is no news regarding the "Republic" party either. I do not consider that party to be in the opposition, as they constantly share the views of the ruling party.”
It should be noted that this morning, the inaugural session of the Yerevan City Council took place. Hayk Marutyan and Andranik Tevanyan declared a boycott and did not attend the session, while the "Public Voice" and "Republic" parties were present.
