Marutyan and Tevanyan Express Their Position on Participation in the City Council Meeting

The "National Progress" party has confirmed that it will not participate in the first meeting of Yerevan's City Council scheduled for October 10.

The "Mother Armenia" alliance has also stated it will not attend the city council meeting.

According to the press secretary of Haik Marutyan, the mayoral candidate from the "National Progress" party, Hovsep Kubatyan, their decision to abstain remains unchanged.

The "Mother Armenia" alliance announced in a statement that it will not participate in the first meeting of the newly elected City Council of Yerevan on October 10.

In the absence of consensus around a unified non-governmental candidate for Yerevan mayor, the "Mother Armenia" alliance has reiterated its earlier announcement regarding its non-participation.

The alliance calls on other non-governmental forces that gained votes through anti-government rhetoric to join in boycotting the meeting, thereby preventing the ruling party from reproducing its power in the capital and creating conditions for new elections in Yerevan.

It should be noted that no party competing for the mayoral seat received 50 percent of the votes in the Yerevan City Council member elections held on September 17. The City Council is preparing for its extraordinary session on October 10, during which a mayor is to be elected.
