Israelis Advised to Leave Egypt Immediately
The Israeli National Security Council has advised citizens of the Jewish state to leave Egypt as soon as possible and to avoid leaving Israel if possible. “Due to the ongoing military operations, we are concerned that attacks on Israelis worldwide may increase. In this regard, we urge our citizens to reconsider planned foreign trips and to avoid visiting countries that may pose a risk, especially in the Middle East,” the agency stated in a declaration reported by the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.
“Following today’s attack in Egypt, we strongly recommend that all our citizens currently in the Sinai Peninsula leave Egypt as soon as possible.” Earlier reports indicated that two tourists from Israel and one Egyptian were killed due to gunfire from a police officer in the city of Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast. The assailant opened fire randomly at a group of tourists who had arrived from Israel. He was part of a security detail assigned to protect Mashiya Square in the central area of the city. The Israeli tourists had arrived to visit the ancient synagogue. Another Egyptian was injured in the incident and was taken to the hospital.
