Employee Smuggles Prohibited Items into Prison Hospital for Bribe

An employee of the RA Ministry of Justice's "Prison Hospital" has smuggled prohibited items into the prison in exchange for a bribe. This information was reported by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee.

It has been established during the preliminary investigation that a convict receiving treatment in the hospital's tuberculosis department, M. A., offered the employee of the prison's security division, K. K., a bribe to carry out an illegal act on his behalf, namely, to introduce prohibited items such as mobile phones, chargers, and other accessories into the correctional facility. K. K. agreed to the proposal.

According to the agreement, in May 2023, K. K. met with a relative of M. A., who handed him the bribe money and the prohibited items. K. K. brought these items into the correctional facility, and they were discovered during a search by operational staff.

K. K. has been charged under Article 435, Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the RA Criminal Code (receiving a bribe), while M. A. has been charged under Article 436, Paragraphs 2 and 3 (giving a bribe).

The preliminary investigation for the criminal case has been completed. The case materials have been submitted to the supervising prosecutor with a request to confirm and forward them to the court.
