In response to a question about how Russia can assist Ruben Vardanyan, Putin called on the Azerbaijani leadership to show kindness towards him. Putin stated, “Ruben Vardanyan has renounced our citizenship. We have always done this, I have spoken with Azerbaijani President Aliyev both now and in the past, and he assured me that he would ensure the rights and security of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. There are simply no Armenians left there, maybe 1,000-1,500. As for the former leaders, as far as I understand, they don’t even want to see them in Yerevan. I hope that in this situation, when territorial and legal issues have been resolved, the Azerbaijani leadership will take into account humanitarian matters and will be guided by humanity,” added Putin.
