VIDEO: Changes to the Yerevan Council's Regulations Clarify the Procedure for the First Meeting
The Yerevan Council adopted a draft amendment to its regulations during an extraordinary session.
Yerevan Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan reported that the inaugural meeting of the newly elected council is set for October 10, where the Mayor of Yerevan will also be elected. He stated, “Under current legislation, this is the first instance where a mayor will not be appointed as a result of garnering over 50% of the votes. Therefore, upon reviewing the regulations, it became clear that the detailed procedure for how the meeting should be conducted is lacking. Additionally, there is a provision in the law that states voting must be conducted by ballots, but it does not specify how that should be ensured. The amendments to the regulations are aimed precisely at organizing this process,” he said.
Grigoryan also noted that other changes have been made to the council’s regulations, aligning it with existing legislation.
The decision was adopted with a vote of 33 in favor, 0 against, and 0 abstentions.
