Belgian Medical Team to Assist Victims of Stepanakert Explosion
A group of doctors from Belgium, specializing in the treatment of severe burns, is set to arrive in Yerevan today to provide assistance to those affected by the explosion in Stepanakert. This was announced by the head of the Belgian Foreign Ministry, Hajia Labib, on her X social media page.
As a result of the explosion at a fuel depot in Stepanakert on September 25, 214 patients who sustained injuries are being treated in medical centers across Armenia. Four seriously injured individuals will continue their treatment in France.
Labib noted that immediately after the incident, Armenia reached out to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Belgian government for assistance, which decided to send a B-FAST team.
The minister clarified, “The team of doctors specializing in the treatment of severe burns is heading to Yerevan today. This team will maintain contact with several hospitals in the capital to exchange best practices and new technologies.”
According to her, the team will also be responsible for preparing severely burned patients for medical evacuation to Belgium. After being sent to Belgium, patients will be treated at the burn center of the Brussels military hospital.
The Belgian Foreign Ministry is in contact with Armenian authorities to ensure effective coordination on the ground and support the mission, Labib added.
“By sending this mission, Belgium demonstrates its solidarity with Armenia, which recently opened an embassy to strengthen ties further,” emphasized the Foreign Minister.
