«We are not aimed at any unfriendly action against Russia or its leader»: Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia

Armenia always pays great attention to the relations we have with Russia; it is very important that these relations are based on mutual respect, dignity, and the principles of fulfilling each other's legal obligations. This was stated by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia and head of the Armenia-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Commission, Hakob Arshakyan, during a statement made in the National Assembly.

According to him, the agenda of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission always derives from the interests of both countries and peoples. “We are not aimed at any unfriendly action against Russia or its leader, although, unfortunately, our Russian counterparts are trying to accuse us of this, while some figures of the Armenian opposition are attempting to gain dividends in the domestic political arena by creating interstate tension. We have repeatedly emphasized that the Rome Statute serves the interests of Armenia and there exists a mechanism through which all bilateral issues can be resolved. Unfortunately, additional time for the question to be resolved in the government sector was also not utilized,” said Arshakyan.

The Deputy Speaker noted that the opportunity to sign a bilateral agreement still exists today and expressed hope that the Russian counterparts will not continue to ignore this opportunity. “I would like to point out that disagreements and tensions occur between all friends, allies, and partner countries, and even among relatives. The existing tension, I am confident, is temporary, and I believe it will be clarified and overcome,” he concluded.
