The European Union Stands with Armenia in Addressing Displaced Persons, Ursula von der Leyen

The European Union is standing alongside Armenia in addressing the needs of displaced persons, wrote Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, in a post on X. She noted that she had a phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan yesterday.

Emphasizing that the EU has increased its humanitarian funding by €5.2 million, von der Leyen also informed that the EU Commissioner for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid would arrive in Armenia on Friday to assess further needs.

According to the Armenian side, during the phone call, Pashinyan and von der Leyen discussed the situation resulting from the forced displacement of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, the regional situation, and issues related to the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda.

They agreed to continue discussions this week during the European Political Community summit in Granada.

On October 5, negotiations between Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev in the Spanish city will be facilitated by Western mediators, and leaders from France, Germany, and the European Council will also join the roundtable with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
