"Ratification of the Rome Statute is an Unfriendly Step towards Vladimir Putin" Says Federation Council Deputy Speaker
The ratification of the Rome Statute by the Armenian parliament will not undermine the age-old friendship between the peoples of Russia and Armenia, according to Yuri Vorobyov, the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council. However, this decision is an unfriendly gesture against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Vorobyov emphasized on his Telegram channel.
“I am confident that no force can destroy the age-old friendship between the Russian and Armenian peoples,” Vorobyov wrote.
The Armenian parliament ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court during a session held on Tuesday.
“The decision of the Armenian parliament undermines the constructive and trustworthy relationships that have developed within the framework of our Russian-Armenian interparliamentary commission,” the deputy concluded.
It is noteworthy that the parliament ratified the Rome Statute with 60 votes in favor and 22 against, recognizing the regulations of the International Criminal Court and acknowledging its jurisdiction with retroactive effect.
