Armenia Has No Good Options from CSTO and Russian-Armenian Partnership for Security, Peskov Says

Armenia has no good options from the CSTO and Russian-Armenian partnership mechanisms for ensuring its security. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian government, as reported by TASS, commenting on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that the CSTO and cooperation with Russia do not provide adequate means for ensuring the country's security.

It is worth noting that Peskov, while commenting on the Armenian Parliament's ratification of the Rome Statute, stated that the Kremlin absolutely disagrees with Pashinyan's view, arguing that ratification of the statute justifies the country's security needs.

“Certainly, additional questions have arisen directed at the current leadership of Armenia, and these have been communicated to the Armenian side beforehand. We have always doubted and continue to doubt that Armenia joining the Rome Statute is correct from the perspective of bilateral relations, and we still believe that this is a wrong decision,” said the press secretary of Putin.

The Parliament ratified the Rome Statute with 60 votes in favor and 22 against, regarding the draft recognizing the statute of the International Criminal Court and its jurisdiction retroactively. Opposition party representatives voted against it.

Additionally, we note that on September 28, it was unanimously approved by the parliamentary legal commission. Russia has officially classified Armenia's step as unfriendly towards them. It should be mentioned that the ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
