Over 1000 Cargo Trucks Queued at Upper Lars

More than 1000 cargo trucks are waiting in line at the "Upper Lars" checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border. This information has been reported by RIA Novosti, referencing the press service of the center for organizing road traffic in the republic.

"In total, there are 1214 cargo trucks in line, of which 300 are in the green zone. The situation at the checkpoint is normal," the press service stated.

From the traffic organization center, it was clarified that the queues are due to a decision made by the Russian government to establish flexible export customs duties starting from October 1, aimed at protecting the domestic market in relation to the exchange rate of the ruble.

"Considering the measures taken, the delay in the passage of transit vehicles is associated with the recalculation of customs duties by legal entities. These legal entities are the owners of goods transported by cargo trucks," the press service added. It was noted that after the completion of the customs clearance procedures for the goods, the vehicles leave Russia according to an electronic queue.
