Zelensky Confirms Arrival of First American Abrams Tanks in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that the first American Abrams tanks have been delivered to the country. He did not specify the number of tanks dispatched. The New York Times reported that the tanks arrived several months ahead of the planned schedule and will be used during offensives.

“Good news from Minister Umierov (the head of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, Rustem Umierov): The Abrams are already in Ukraine and are set to bolster our brigades. I thank our allies for fulfilling their commitments,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

U.S. President Joe Biden announced the delivery of Abrams tanks to Ukraine in January. In August, Ukrainian soldiers completed training on the operation of this equipment. The head of Ukraine's military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that the Abrams tanks will be used for “very specific, well-thought-out operations.” Otherwise, he warned, there is a risk of those tanks being destroyed.
