Ratification of the Rome Statute Is Not Directed Against the Russian Federation and CSTO – Nikol Pashinyan

The ratification of the Rome Statute will allow Armenia to benefit from the ICC's capabilities, ensuring the country's external security, and it is not directed against the Russian Federation and the CSTO. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in his address to the public.

“The decision was made in December 2022, when it became evident to everyone that the mechanisms of the CSTO and Armenian-Russian strategic partnership were insufficient to ensure Armenia's external security,” said the Prime Minister.

“The security systems and allies we have relied on for many years have posed a challenge to our vulnerabilities and have undermined the possibility of the Armenian people having an independent state. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.”

According to him, this policy has nothing to do with the 2018 revolution that took place in Armenia. Pashinyan added that we have regularly seen manifestations of this policy over the past decades.

“We have never agreed with formulations that undermine the independence of the Republic of Armenia, but it is concerning that instead of heeding our will to have an independent, sovereign, free, and democratic state, some of our partners are increasingly working to bring our vulnerabilities in the security sector to light, now jeopardizing not only our external but also our internal security and stability, violating all norms of diplomatic and intergovernmental relations, including contractually assumed obligations,” stated Prime Minister Pashinyan.
