Sweden Must Fulfill Its Promises to Join NATO: Erdoğan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has deemed Sweden's actions insufficient in the direction of ratifying its NATO membership during an interview with American PBS television, as reported by Ria.ru.

“Of course, Sweden must fulfill its promises to join NATO. Terrorist organizations must immediately cease their demonstrations and activities in the streets of Stockholm. Sweden seems to have changed its legislation, but that is not enough,” said President Erdoğan.

The Turkish leader noted that Sweden needs to uphold its commitments in the fight against terrorism, as Ankara still sees “terrorists walking in the streets of Stockholm.”

“Sweden’s proposal to join NATO will be discussed by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TGNA), and the decision of the parliament will be decisive. This will be part of the agenda of the Grand National Assembly; the parliament will evaluate the situation within its timetable. This proposal will be put to a vote among the deputies,” stated the Turkish President.
