VIDEO: No Textbooks, Children Unmotivated and Disrespectful Towards Books and Teachers

Teachers are staging a protest near the Government building, demanding to alleviate the heavy workload on educators, adjust the certification tests so that most can pass, and change the content of textbooks for the 2nd, 5th, and 7th grades.

“There are no textbooks, children are unmotivated, they don’t take the textbooks or teachers seriously. What does it mean that they say they'll adapt and manage? I also want to mention the issue of certification. The certification tests are structured in such a way that more than 70 percent of teachers cannot pass. This certification process is a hastily and poorly done thing that teachers are told they must comply with,” said one of the teachers.

Another teacher added that the Ministry of Education has turned teachers into test subjects. “Certifications, educational criteria—they think this is reform, but they have just overloaded us with things that do not contribute to improving education. Last year, over 2,000 teachers volunteered for certification, but only 11 passed. It’s as if they are telling us, ‘You want a high salary, so you’ll take the test.’ The certification test is designed in a way that you are unlikely to pass. As Mesrop Mashtots said, the authorities are ‘enjoying’ at our expense,” said one of the history teachers.

It is noteworthy that teachers also protested near the Ministry of Education on September 12, demanding to shut down emis.am and switch to paper records, as they believe this would not improve students' educational levels but only increase their workload.
