VIDEO: According to Minasian, the Rome Statute will definitely be ratified legally
The Minister of Justice of Armenia, Grigor Minasian, stated that the draft for the ratification of the Rome Statute is aimed solely at increasing new international criminal law mechanisms within Armenia and is directed specifically towards the interests of the Armenian state.
After a government meeting, in response to journalists' questions regarding whether Vladimir Putin would be arrested upon his arrival in Armenia if the statute is ratified, Minasian noted:
“The statute allows the international criminal prosecution and judicial system to investigate and uncover the war crimes committed against Armenia; it is a good protective investigative tool, and it is regrettable that our state has not utilized it.”
Regarding the question related to Putin, he stated that from a legal perspective, this matter has no connection to the issue of the Rome Statute.
“Legally, the Rome Statute will definitely be ratified; the approval of this draft by the government and the acceptance by the National Assembly have nothing to do with the events related to Russia. This is a defensive tool for Armenia.”
