The First Floating Solar Power Plant in the Country Opens on Lake Yerevan
Today, the first floating solar power plant in the country has opened on Lake Yerevan. This information is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia.
The plant was constructed with the initiative of the Renewable Energy and Energy Saving Foundation of Armenia, with support from the French government.
During the inauguration ceremony, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan noted that although the capacity of this plant is not large, it and similar plants could open new opportunities for the development of renewable energy in Armenia. "We are confident that similar projects will have a positive impact and contribute to the development of the sector and the strengthening of Armenia's energy security," said the minister.
The inauguration was attended by Yerevan Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan, French Ambassador Olivier Decottignies, and other officials.
Incidentally, the plant was built by the French company 'Transenergie' using equipment from German, Austrian, and French manufacturers. Floating plants are being installed around the world. They have several advantages: they do not occupy land, have improved cooling due to being in water, which increases their efficiency, and the solar panels reduce evaporation from the lake or reservoir.
